Beets

In reading a friend's daily record of using beets in her smoothies I was reminded of an episode of Untold Stories from the ER in which a doctor is trying to diagnose a woman's problem with what appears to be bleeding from the rectum, followed by paralysis of her voice box. Turns out, thankfully before they almost rushed her to emergency GI surgery, that it was because she overdosed on beets that morning. Now, I cannot find any literature at this point in time to support the loss of one's voice, but I did find the following two articles that do warn about discoloration, and a few other minor side effects.
